What Is a Water Heater?
A water heater stores and heats the water for your home — for showers, dishes, laundry, and everything in between. Most homes run a 40–50 gallon tank-type unit on gas or electricity.
Tankless and heat-pump water heaters are gaining ground for their efficiency and compact form factor. The right choice depends on household size, energy source, and how much hot water you actually use.
Standard Vent Water Heater
Atmospheric Vent
Uses the natural rise of hot exhaust gases to vent through a vertical metal chimney or flue. It doesn’t use a fan. Simple, reliable, and cheaper to install, but less efficient and requires a chimney.
- Natural draft venting through chimney
- No electrical components for venting
- Most affordable installation cost
- Simple and time-tested design
Power Vent Water Heater
Fan-Assisted Venting
Uses an electric fan to push exhaust gases out through a side wall using PVC pipe. This allows more flexible venting locations and slightly higher efficiency, but it requires electricity and is more expensive than a standard vent.
- Electric fan-assisted venting
- Flexible installation — no chimney needed
- Side-wall venting through PVC pipe
- Higher efficiency than standard vent
Tankless Water Heater
On-Demand Hot Water
Heats water on demand instead of storing it in a tank. When hot water is needed, the unit instantly heats the water as it flows through the heat exchanger. Much higher efficiency and unlimited hot water, but higher upfront cost and requires proper gas supply and venting.
- Instant on-demand hot water
- Unlimited hot water supply
- Highest energy efficiency
- Compact wall-mounted design

Inside the System
How a Water Heater Works
A few core components do the heavy lifting on every tank-type water heater — and a couple of them quietly extend its lifespan.
Tank
Stores hot water until you need it.
Burner / Element
Heats the water — a gas flame or electric element.
Anode rod
Sacrificial rod that prevents tank corrosion.
Thermostat
Controls the water temperature setpoint.
T&P valve
Safety valve that releases excess pressure or heat.
Financing Available
Whether you’re upgrading to tankless or replacing an existing tank, we offer financing to fit your budget.
Jennifer Walsh
“They replaced our water heater and the whole process was seamless. On time, clean work, and the price was exactly what they quoted. No surprises — just solid work from a team that clearly knows what they’re doing.”
